Baby Sign Language

This workshop introduces more than 20 signs that are based on American Sign Language (ASL). It is designed for expectant parents and parents with babies ranging in age from birth to 18 months.

In this one class, you will learn about the latest research and all the tools to teach your baby to sign.

Fun activities and songs will show you how easy it can be to integrate simple signs into your everyday routine to jump-start your child’s verbal skills.  Read the FAQs for more information.

BABY SIGN LANGUAGE PLAYGROUPS

Our playgroup series is a fun way to build your signing vocabulary and skills with themes like mealtime, animals, colors, family, bedtime, and more. We've split twelve sessions into two different six-day series.

One is called Playgroup Boom and the other is called Playgroup Zoom.  No need to take them in order; you can start with either Boom or Zoom.  Both series include the essential basic starter signs and vary in the more advanced vocabulary. Shortly after your first six-day series you’ll be thrilled to see your baby start to sign. That’s the time to enroll in the second series to increase your baby’s vocabulary and your own signing confidence!  Our Introductory Workshop is recommended prior to taking a playgroup series unless you are already familiar with ASL.

It is so much fun to gain insight into what my 11 month old daughter is thinking about. She points to a lot of things, so it is is sort of hard to tell what she is interested in...until she started signing! For example, I think she’s pointing to a toy, but then I see her sign ‘hat’ and I can respond appropriately instead of playing the guessing game as to what she wants. It’s amazing to be able to communicate and know we are understanding each other even when she is pre-verbal.
