about this oasis for san francisco families

The American Academy of Pediatrics notes,
“Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children
and youth. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children” (full study and review can be found here). http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/reprint/pediatrics;119/1/182.pdfimportance_of_play.htmlshapeimage_1_link_0

what is recess?

The cornerstone of Recess is our membership-based 3200-square-foot play space, where it’s always time for free play. Drop in to play, connect with others; share a smile or a conversation. Watch as your child explores our safe, developmentally-rich play space, featuring discreet yet connected modules for babies through preschoolers.

For something more structured, we also offer quarterly children’s classes in art, music, movement, science, and more. Learn, grow, and experiment under the guidance of one of our experienced teachers.

When you play hard, you need a break! Try our casual café, where cheese sticks, dried fruit and bunny crackers initiate the timeless ritual of sharing a meal with others.
And be sure to join us for special events, including seasonal gatherings and regular concerts, when it’s time to celebrate together.
