Managing Separations for Children...and their Adults with Symbio

Details: Tuesday, September 14, 2010:  7:30pm

Registration: Call 415-701-PLAY to register or visit: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/asp/adm/home.asp?studioid=3210

Cost: Members: $35 individual/$55 couple Non-Members: $40 individual/$60 couple

  1. For some children (and for some parents) the moment of separation is a threshold to independent discovery and adventure. For many others, it is met with anxiety, grief, even dread.

  2. Psychologically healthy separations teach children how to say goodbye, feel their feelings, but know that they are safe; and that their connection to those they are leaving persists. In this presentation we will examine the meaning of separations from a developmental point of view, and discuss how to help your child learn to manage the broad array of feelings they produce.

  3. InstructorsSymbio is a collaboration between two partners, Noelle Cochran, PsyD and Lele Diamond, MFT. They are both specialists in infant and toddler mental health with extensive backgrounds in child development and family psychology. Symbio is borne of their shared desire to provide a multifaceted resource for families with young children. They offer services geared to meet the real-life needs of modern families as they move through the early years of child rearing. To find out more about Symbio and what they we do, please visit www.symbiosf.com.

  4. **If you sign up as a couple, please send us a quick email to note who will be joining you. Thanks so much!

Infant/Child CPR and Choke-Saving

cost: $45/members, $55/non-members

Registration: sign up online by clicking here, or email signups@recessurbanrecreation.com, or phone 415.701.7529.

  1. CPR Family classes were formed to accommodate the busy schedules of parents and caregivers by providing concise, fun and informative Infant/Child CPR and Pediatric First Aid courses. The programs were developed with these things in mind:

  2. 1) Parents-to-be are in need of current, relevant information

  3. 2) Parents and parents-to-be want a program that will really focus on infants and children.

  4. 3) They want to safely and comfortably learn the skills they need, even during the final months of pregnancy, and older caregivers need the training without worrying about over-exertion or uncomfortable positions.

  5. These CPR classes are fun, interactive and last approximately two hours. Participants will receive a Family Caregiver Certificate of Participation which reflects competency in performing the skills necessary to provide Infant and Child CPR and Choke-Saving techniques or Infant/Child First Aid, taught using current national guidelines. This certification is valid for babysitters and nannies and relatives who give care to young ones, in an informal family setting.*

  6.

  7. *For state-required certification, a full-day course which includes Adult CPR training from a national certifying organization such as the AHA or ARC may be mandated. Please check with your supervisor to determine whether this certification will fulfill employment requirements.

October

Saturday, October 2, 10am-1pm:  Write your Will, Power of Attorney & Advance Health Care directive:  Panic-Free Planning Workshop.

cost: $215/individuals, $330/couple

sign up: sign up online by clicking here, or email signups@recessurbanrecreation.com, or phone 415.701.7529.

  1. Many of us panic about the things that can go wrong, especially after kids arrive on the scene.  Many of us have had these to-do's on our list for too long: get a valid Will in place, talk to an attorney about getting things in order in case something happens.  Maybe you don't have the time, or maybe the cost is just too much right now.  Attorney Amy Shelf has teamed up with the folks at Recess to bring new and expectant parents a way to get the basics out of the way and organize your future—all at a thrifty, group-discount rate.

  2. Here is how it works:  you & your partner spend a morning at Recess and attend a Panic-Free Planning workshop (childcare available in the recess playspace).  You'll leave with a valid Will, Financial Power of Attorney and an Advance Health Care Directive, all completed with the help and guidance of an experienced estate planning attorney.   More information at www.recessurbanrecreation.com or www.amyshelf.com

Saturday, October 2, 5:30pm (Doors at 5pm):  Randy Kaplan FAMILY CONCERT

  1. With a voice and a style that bring to mind the classics of Woody Guthrie, Randy Kaplan get kids and parents singing along and laughing aloud.  Nickelodeon's Parentsconnect has chosen Randy's new CD The Kids Are All Id as a "Parent Pick" for 2010.  Kaplan paints a humorous and poignant picture with every song. Join us on October 2 for an evening out with the family!  More info: www.randykaplan.com
